Recht Refraktia [SK004 Vier] (レヒト・レフレクティア, Rehito Refurekutia; English: Recht Refraktia) and Link Refraktia [SK005 Fünf] (リンク・レフレクティア, Rinku Refurekutia; Japanese: Rink Refraktia), sometimes referred to by fans as the Refraktia Twins, are a pair of Dark Magi and members of Schwarzkreuz appearing in Rosenkreuzstilette ~Freudenstachel~. They are a pair of twin sisters who are always seen together, rarely apart. Later on in the game, they are both revealed to share a secret of their own with one another.

Appearance[]

Recht and Link are nun siblings dressed in the usual nun attire, with black shoes as well as black crosses on the back of the handkerchief part of their attire. Without their habits, they both wear black berets. They both have long, black hair held in a ponytail by a white ribbon (Recht has her ponytail on the left side of her head, Link has her ponytail on the right), and grey eyes. Recht is always seen wearing a white eyepatch over her right eye (although it was colored black in one piece of artwork).

Character Profile[]

"Ummm... Uh... I'm sorry, but here we come!"
—Recht Refraktia, Rosenkreuzstilette ~Freudenstachel~
"You think you can take the two of us? You really should just stand down."
—Link Refraktia, Rosenkreuzstilette ~Freudenstachel~

Recht and Link are close sisters that are always seen together, rarely apart. Recht, the older of the two, is mild-mannered and polite but is very introverted and doesn't like talking to others. She is blind in her right eye and thus wears an eye-patch. She loves to read books and prefers to spend time in the library.

Link, the younger sister, is a lively, outgoing and cheerful girl who keeps her sister foremost in her thoughts. While she does speak her mind openly, she will not hesitate to antagonize anyone who annoys her. If her sister is in any danger, Link will stop at nothing to remove the threat.

After the twins are defeated in ~Freudenstachel~, it is revealed that Link is actually Recht's imaginary friend created by magic. However, Link and Recht are real twins and Link, despite being a fake image, has her own consciousness and is so natural to Recht that her existence is taken for granted. Thus when Recht is defeated, although she technically has no more magic stamina left, the image of Link still remained.

While Link is nothing more than Recht's imaginary friend, according to the latter they had been together since the day they were born. The original Japanese verb tense was ambiguous so that it cannot be easily judged whether or not both twins have been dead all along.

Abilities[]

The Refraktia sisters wield the miracle power Falschegestalt ("False Shadow"). Using it, they can create a magical shield that reflects special attacks. Falschegestalt is also the ability Recht used to create the Link that appears alongside her.

Rosenkreuzstilette ~Freudenstachel~[]

Recht and Link are often seen working alongside the rest of Schwarzkreuz against RKS. While observing Freudia Neuwahl with their viewing globe, Link believes that Freu isn't that impressive while Recht warns her not to underestimate her. While Eifer Skute and Schirach Fühler argue over who gets to have a go at Freudia, Link becomes annoyed with it and Recht pleads for them both not to fight each other. Pamela Arwig tells everyone that they don't need to worry about her, thinking of her as a relic of the old ways and believing that she'd hardly matter to any of them.

Freudia meets the twins at the end of the Library of Shadows. Recht politely introduces herself and Link, though the latter says she doesn't need to be so polite to enemies. Strudel introduces herself to both of them as well, while Freudia asks them both to step aside. Link says that Freudia is the one who whould stand down, but Strudel counters saying that she's helping to make things even. Recht politely asks if both of them would heed the Word of God instead of fighting either of them. Freudia decides that she should teach both of them a lesson, while Link says that no one stands a chance against her nor her sister together. Recht apologizes for having to attack her but they both do so anyway.

Should the twins be the last of Schwarzkreuz to be targeted by Freudia, Recht would become more nervous knowing that they're the only ones left. Link reminds her to relax and never show weakness in the face of the enemy. Recht states that the two of them are kind of new to Schwarzkreuz and Link asks Freudia if she thinks she can handle both of them two-to-one. Much of the other dialogue plays out the same way as it would otherwise.

After Freudia defeats them, she learns that Link is actually Recht's imaginary friend generated by her magic, and has been with her for so long that Link's image became natural to Recht. Strudel considers it a great ability for when one feels lonely, while Freudia considers it to be a defense mechanism despite Recht's mana being depleted. Freudia agrees to let them go provided that they no longer work against her.

Rosenkreuzstilette ~Weißsilber~[]

A meeting is held by Pamela between the members of Schwarzkreuz, discussing their plans for RKS. Recht talks bout the Pope's decree saying that Spiritia Rosenberg is to be apprehended immediately if the purge is to succeed. Link believes that the Pope is just nervoud thinking that things might not go according to plan. When Schirach suggests just executing the Magi to get it over with, Recht condemns the idea saying that God wouldn't forgive Schwarzkreuz for that, and Link calls Schirach a sicko. When Schirach volunteers to be the one to capture Tia, Link reminds her to do it unharmed, leading Schirach to consider her quick to "scold naughty little children". Pamela announces her intent to pursue RKS and defeat its members on her own, ordering the Refraktia twins alongside Eifer to go on guard duty and for Schirach to follow suit after Spiritia is in custody. Recht and Link don't trust Pamela's idea, but Pamela tells them that the Pope will be pleased if the mission is a success, stating her belief that none of the Magi can defeat her.

When Pamela later returns home to the High Chapel after defeating the members of RKS, she is informed by Recht and Link that, as decreed by the Pope, the Church has relieved her of her duty, stripped her of all titles and authority, punished her for abandoning her post with excommunication and exile, and branded her as a heretic and an enemy of the state. Pamela is left in a huge shock and asks them if they dare to make a mockery of her. Link orders Pamela to leave at once while Recht gives her the letter in the pope's handwriting and says that it's not a joke. Pamela demands that the twins explain themselves, but both Recht and Link leave, having done the only thing they were supposed to do. Pamela is left in disbelief that she's been marked as a heretic and vows to expose the villain responsible for conspiring against her and exact her just revenge.

Pamela encounters the twins again at the end of the Library of Shadows. She demands to know why she was exiled and what the Pope said. Recht nervously answers that they were never given the real reason and that the Pope wouldn't see them. Link shouts at Pamela not to yell at Recht. She asks her if she'd just tell them both what she did to make the Pope angry, accusing her of being arrogant and saying that they thought she was like them and wanted to protect the Church and bring peace to the Empire. Pamela replies that she didn't do anything to betray the faith despite admitting to being conceited and how selfish it was to chase after RKS on her own. Recht says that both of them were ordered to execute her on sight while Link admits that the Pope has changed and may turn against them both at any time. Pamela states to them that they could at least learn the truth if she could have an audience with him. Link understands how Recht feels about what Pamela believes they should do, but reminds them that they have their orders. From there, a fight breaks out.

If the sisters are targeted after Schirach Fühler has been defeated, most of the first parts of the dialogue will be altered. Pamela sounds much calmer when asking why she was exiled and what the Pope said to them, Recht doesn't sound as nervous when she answers that they were never given the real reason and the Pope wouldn't see them, and Link doesn't shout at Pamela not to yell at Recht before asking what she did to make the Pope mad at her.

After she defeats the twin sisters, Pamela is surprised of her lack of knowledge of the members of Schwarzkreuz when she learns that Link was not a real being but instead Recht's imaginary friend. Depending on whether they were chosen before or after Schirach, either Pamela says they both should have told her with Recht responding that she never told anyone and that Link isn't actually an illusion but her sister and that they would always be together from birth until death, or Recht states that Pamela doesn't seem surprised after which the latter responds that Schirach told her about it and admits that she never even tried to get to know her comrades, and Recht says that Link can think and feel on her own despite not having a real body and that both of them really are sisters. Either way, Pamela says she won't abandon the twins and will earn their trust, asking them if they would come with her. Recht asks Pamela to give them both time to think, praying that her punishment will be lifted, and Pamela understands.

Recht and Link and the rest of Schwarzkreuz, including Eifer, later happily reunite with their captain after she has defeated Iris and reunited Spiritia with Freudia and Strudel.

Boss strategy[]

Link will leap forward, followed by Recht as Link then lunges at the player, Recht following her, and the two will repeat said movement, occasionally having their shadows shoot lasers as they do so. The two will also encase themselves in bright magical spherical shields as they move along all four sides of the screen, with Recht moving faster and Link moving slower. After they finish once Link reaches the floor again, the two will use their shields again and move in different directions around the room before meeting together and then teleporting to one side of the screen. In Desperation Mode, the two will change the background color to monochrome as they disappear and reappear with their shadows and move around, stopping in different spots to shoot lasers at the player before moving again and repeating, before teleporting to one side of the screen again. To damage the twins, the player has to attack Recht, who is the one with the eyepatch, as attacking Link, who is the one lacking an eyepatch, will heal them instead.

Their weakness is Eislanze, which is learned from Luste Teuber.

Trivia[]

  • Recht's and Link's names are a play on the German words "links" and "rechts", meaning "Left" and "Right".
  • Link's name is also more commonly known as the name of the similarly-named heroic protagonist of The Legend of Zelda series.
  • Recht's and Link's designs and personalities, though somewhat backwards, are reminiscent of the Shindo sisters, Kei and Chihiro, from the Japanese eroge visual novel series, Ef: A Fairy Tale of the Two.
  • Their boss fight opens with them doing Gemini Man's attack pattern from Mega Man 3. Their patterns when they are flying around while shielded are somewhat similar to Armored Armadillo's from Maverick Hunter X.
  • If Link is attacked (Eislanze and the other Abilities) the Refraktia Sister's health bar will heal.
